My most recent project I chose to look at the movie Spiderman. I chose six different frames from the movie witch I thought best represents the highlights throughout the film. For my first image I used a picture of peter parker before his transformation. For my second photo I used a picture of peter receiving the spider bite that changed his life. Next I used a picture of peter in his costume, in this picture he looks like he is still figuring out his abilities. Next we see Spiderman and his love Mary-Jane. Then I used a photo Spiderman and the Green Goblin, Spiderman’s enemy, fighting. Finally I used a picture of Spiderman with the city in the background representing that he is the protector of the city. I think that these frames give the viewer a good indication as to what happens in the film.

I chose the movie Into The Wild for my six frame movie project because this movie has changed my life. Also the main character went through the same things I’m going through now as a senior. He is stuck between College, life and true freedom. He leaves his life behind leaving college and his family with no explanation. He travels by foot meeting tons of interesting and new people looking for true happiness. I used Photo shop to resize the images to make them fit together onto an 8.5 by 11 sheet of paper. I arraigned them into 2 columns of 3 in sequence of events in the film that is based on a true story.

I chose to work with the Lion King II Simbas Pride, as a movie in 6 frames. It is one of my favorite movies. I have watched this movie since I was a little kid. The pictures go from left to right, to tell the story.
I chose the first frame, because it is the beginning of the movie where Simba and Nala give birth to Kiara and Rafiki holds her over the edge of pride walk. That was a tradition for a kings family to do.
The second image is of Kiara and Ziras son, his name is Kovu. The two meet in the tall grass, and played around, and they become friends, but there parents don't like it. Simba and Zira step in, and Zira plots to kill Simba.
Image three is of Nuka dying, after getting smashed by a lot of logs. Vitani, the daughter of Zira is brying because she was close to Nuka since they grew up together.
In image four, it shows Kovu with his scar that his mother had given to him. This is representing Scar from The Lion King I. This was given to Kover after Nuka had died, and Kovu said that he doesn't want to kill Simba anymore.
Image five is an image of Kovus mother falling off the edge of a cliff into a waterfall. The lions get into a fight. There are 2 groups of lions the pride rock ones, and th outsiders. They got into a fight, and Kiara had to stick up for hr dad, Simba, and when she did that, she fell along with Zira, and almost died, However, Zira fell off, and did die, she fell into the collapsed river.
In image six it shows them all getting along. Simba finally likes Kovu, since Kovu did save him, and they all live happily ever after.

In these six frames I used a variety of pictures from the Disney movie Pocahontas. I started the first of the six frames off with a picture of Governor Ratcliffe preparing his crew to go to the new world and build new lives, while Pocahontas a young woman from the Algonquin Indian tribe is having dreams and feelings of the changes that are about to invade her homeland. In the third picture, Pocahontas meets a white man named John Smith who teaches her many unfamiliar things from England. I can relate to Pocahontas because things for me always take an unexpected turn and I learn something new about myself as does Pocahontas when she is tested between choosing the love of her family and the love of John Smith when she finds she loves all his differences.

I chose the movie Finding Nemo for this six frame project because it has always been one of my favorite movies ever since it was first released. I love the amazing color that the movie has and so i decided to try and capture that in six frames. My images show the relationship between Nemo and he father, Marlin in the beginning. Then I show Nemo angry with his father because of his swimming capabilities which causes him to swim out towards a boat where he was then captured by a scuba diver that put him in a fish tank with others in his dentist's office. While Nemo is in the fish tank, his dad and his new friend Dory go on a crazy adventure to try and find Nemo and bring him back to his home. In the end, Marlin and Dory find Nemo and bring him back to the coral reef where Nemo grew up and the three of them stayed at the reef and never swam out to any boats anymore.

For my project a story in six frames, I chose Silent Hill because it portrayed the relationship between a mother and daughter and what a mother would do to rescue her flesh and blood. The first frame shows the strong yet mysterious relationship between Rose, the mother, and Sharon. The next two frames symbolize the dangers of the town Silent Hill as one walks into it and how Rose and the police officer Cybil, rely on each other to survive from the horrors awaiting them. The third and fourth frames depict the true nature of Sharon revealing the mystery to the story, that before she was long ago adopted, she was burned for apparently being a witch. Soon revenge will take place. The last slide represents the success of getting out of Silent Hill, but when they reach home, the world is empty. The story is very dark and mysterious which I really loved about the movie. These six frames represent the movie at its best.

Devon Kroon - Wisconsin Protests

In this digital media collage I used pictures from the different protests taking place in the capital of Wisconsin to protect union jobs. I used many dark colors to show the seriousness of the issue, and show how it is negatively affecting peoples lives. In my collage I chose pictures of union workers protesting to protect their rights. I also chose portraits that demonstrate peace. These pictures really show that the people of Wisconsin are crying out for help, and in desperate need of some progress.

While making my collage of images from Japan's tsunami, I used several filters and I used more blues, greens, and greys to make them seem darker to show the struggles that these people will have to go through in the days to come. Although I used filters on several of the images, they did not take away the purpose of the picture itself. Most of the pictures that I chose show the struggles that are happening now and are going to continue to happen and also show the effortsthat the military are conducting to help their people, but two of them also show how powerful a tsunami is and how it can make everyday items become deadly distractions.

For my most recent project I chose to do an interpretation of the disaster in Japan.I used many bright colors because many people don't care or know about the situation in Japan and it is often over looked. The bright colors represent that Japan is being noticed and that as a country they are strong and stand out. In light of the disaster the Japanese nation remains strong.

I chose to make my project based on the Middle East Protests mainly because it showed to me the power and courage the citizens had to protest the wrongs of their governments. I displayed the unity of these people by blending colors together to show that they are united and mixed together. I also used strong colors to represent the peace and terror using whites, reds, and blacks. Huge emphasis went towards the photos symbolizing loyalty, which overall represents this project.

My collage was made up of 9 photographics of the on going crisis in Japn. The reason I chose Japan as my topic was because it's a topic that took a hold of my heart. Seeing the devastation and trying to grasp the people's emotions and how they feel, I would never be able to do so but I can still express my feelings through my artwork. I made this to show indiviuals who look at my piece the destuction that the earthquake and tsunami has caused. Mainly I'm hoping it will show people to cherish all they have and to keep hope alive.

I chose to do a project on Japan, just after the Tsunami and Earthquake. I worked with different images from Japan; I chose glowing edges effect for a lot of them. My favorite image is of the grocery store where everything is empty, because I put a white blur around the man as if it would be from a nightmare. I like the one with the rescued child too. I made bars on it to make it look kind of like a prison cell. I did this because that child is going to have a long time of living in the shelters. Until they get it cleaned up and rebuilt it, it will feel like prison for them.

American Flag Interpretation

The students of the Rockwood Graphic Arts class redesigned the American Flag. In the image students put forth their thoughts on what exactly Freedom, Liberty, Government, etc.... individually means to them. The images run the gambit from positive patriotism to skepticism. Overall it was remarkable to witness the creation of their interpretations and the final images.

I chose to do a Warhol inspired portrait of Adam Sandler, because he is one of my favorite actors. He plays in many good movies such as 50 First Dates, The Wedding Singer, and Grown Ups. He also does comedy songs such as I Ran Over The Taco Bell Dog. So I chose to do my favorite actor Adam Sandler, and that is why. I chose random bright colors because I thought it would be more creative just to do it really bright. The colors I chose are some of my favorites, such as blue, being my favorite, and green, being my second favorite color. After I did that, I just picked other random bright colors that would make it stick out more to people who are looking at it.

In this Warhol Interpretation of Chris Farley I replaced the original colors with elaborate colors. They represent his carefree and fun lifestyle.

He is known for playing roles on SNL and for his other comedic roles in movies such as Black Sheep or Tommy Boy. I used PhotoshopS CS4 to alter a traced and scanned photo. I choose this picture because he was one of the best comedians of his day.

I chose Courtney Love for my Warhol inspired portrait mainly because she's gone through a very tragic life. I showed this by the color of her skin, green, portraying an ill, toxic version of herself along with red, bloodshot type eyes to show of her tiring. As the lead singer/founder of the band Hole, the colors used on her outfit represent her edginess, and power as a female rock n roll star and also as an actress. This representation of her that I have created really symbolizes her life, which contained many low points but also a lot of high points.

For the Warhol inspired protrait project, I decided to trace a picture of Oli Sykes from the band Bring Me the Horizon. I used the dark blue for his hair and the lighter blue for his lips to contrast the color of his skin.I also used the darker green for his shirt because in the original picture of him, his shirt was black like his hair so I wanted to keep using the darker colors to go with the actual picture. I decided to make his eyes neon green because the main focus is on his eyes in the original. To create my image, I used the Magic Wand tool, the Brush, the Paint Bucket, and the color swatches in the Photoshop program.

When I was working on my label project we used layers. When working with layers it's very complicated but that is the backbone to photoshop. When working with layers you must make sure that you are in the correct layer or your project can get messed up. Once you understand layers it's all very easy to do. After working on my label project I feel more comfortable working with layers.

To make this label i used Photoshop CS3. I found a Chef's Cupboard label and traced it with tracing paper. Then i used a scanner and put it on the computer opening it in Photoshop. After that i fixed up my scan and took the scan and put it on a background layer six times. Then using layers to edit them and color them they way i wanted.

For my label project, I choose a Gatorade label and for the color fill i did the colors of the rainbow. My project is made up of six layers, not including the background, this can kind of get tough because you have to make sure your on the right layer or it will nto make the correct marks. There are six labels, each one is a certain color, but what makes them so unique are the different tones and shades of that specific color. I used a black outline to make them stand out and gave it a creative tone. The background I made gray to offset the black and bring out the color!

In my Warhol label project I used the new Gatorade logo and added a vintage look to it. I tried to bring out an older style and merge it with a newer logo, giving a new look to the bottled beverage that everyone can't get enough of. I used the variation of colors to give everyone a chance to appreciate at least one of the logos through their different features, giving a diverse look to the whole picture. The six different layers I used to produce the whole picture were individually worked on and then merged together to finish the entire picture.

The I drew my And Warhol silkscreen is I stated by tracing a picture that I didn't even know what it was. It took alot of time to trace all the details in the picture, and it had alot of random mice in it. Then I started to learn how to use Photoshop and make things blur and fit in it, but I'm still not very good at using it. Then I just added alot of different colors into randoms spots I thought they looked good in. I also tried to keep the colors in the same blend so that they didn't look off balanced. Then I touched up the edges where it looked smeared, and thats how I did my silkscreen.

When beginning my picture, the first thing I did was draw two Wookiee characters. After that I scanned them and opened them up on Photoshop. Photoshop is a graphic program that art can be created on. I altered the colors of the picture and then spliced the wto of them together by using the lasso tool.

The reason why I chose a Wookiee instead of a regular person is because I thought it would be more of a challenge. It must have been a challenge because everyone else finished way before I did. My original idea was to change the colors of the one I made and put them side by side to make it more of a Warhol effect but I ran out of time.

The people I choose for my Andy Warhol portrait were Lauran Conrad and Brody Jenner. I choose Lauran and Brody because they are some of my favorite people to watch on TV and also I am very into fashion and modeling and that is a big part of Lauran's life. In this portrait I used the colors brown, yellow and also a blondish color and also blue. I used those colors because I wanted to stay as close to what they look like as possible. I also used some of the older techniques that I learned in the previous years to create the portrait.

Shaggy 2 dope is one of the two members of Insane Clown Posse which is a band. I chose him for my Andy Warhol project because when I heard it was going to be an Andy Warhol format I couldn't think of anybody but him to be in my project. I traced his picture and scanned it to Photoshop. I used various colors and formats to get the picture the way it is now. Shaggy's style portrait is perfect and easy to make into an Andy Warhol. He is a big influence in my life that is probably why i chose him.

For my Warhol Portrait, I picked Keirth Harkin because he is part of my favorite group Celtic Thunder and is one of the lead guitarists for the group. I chose the colors for this one becasue the are Celtic colors that are used in many Celtic designs. I used a lot of different tools in editing the picture. I traced the picture with pencil then I outlined it with a fine tip sharpie. The tools I used the most are the magnetic lasso, air brush, and the magic wand.

First I found a picture of Albert Einstein and after tracing it on tracing paper I then scaned it into a computer a bunch of times "I just love technology, not really" then Photoshop excepted it and so I went to work cropping each section making sure all the white was gone and adding lots of vibrant colors to give it the Warhol effect.

Warhol portraits consist of creative iconic pop art, which can be very symbolic or just inspiring. For my portraits I choose Boba Fett from Star Wars, Disco Stu from the Simpsons, Ash Catchem from Poke'mon and Sherlock Holmes from the famous mystery stories. I choose these photos because they have played a role in my life as a child and even presently. Each one represents a part of an imaginative world i would like to be a part of and the characteristics that I share with the characters. I chose Kat Von D for my Andy Warhol project. She is a famous tattoo artist who has her own shop called High Voltage Tattoo in Hollywood, California. I chose her for this project because i am interested in the tattoo industry and her artwork. The process of making my edited image was to first trace the image of Kat in her shop, scan my tracing, and use Photoshop to refine the lines and add color. I used the brighter green, pink, and blue on her eyes, hair, and lips and the bolder red and purples on her wrist band and shirt. Then I used the duller blue and gray for her skin and background to make the brighter colors come out more.

I chose Jim Morrison for my Andy Warhol project. I admire the person because he is an inspiring musical artist, song writer and an amazing poet. Jim Morrison is always known as a person consumed with problems and addictions but by his true fans is know for his eccentic improvisation and absolute pefection with his symbolic meanings in his songs and poetry.

On the computer I used Adobe Photoshop. I scanned a pciture that i traced from a picture of Jim Morrison off of Google. Then I altered the color of the picture and enhanced the color of the lines.

I made my own personal version of an Andy Warhol using his style of art. Andy Warhol was a painter, printmaker, and filmmaker who was a top figure in the leading art movement called pop art. The product I used to do so was Adobe Photoshop which is a graphics editing program. My picture is based on the cast of Desperate Housewives. The colors I used I based off of their personalities according to the show. Everything i did was to git their personalities and make them appear as themselves only with an Andy Warhol touch.

The person I chose to do my Andy Warhol portrait with is Erika Toda. She played one of my favorite characters, Misa Amane, in the live-action movie of Death Note. Andy Warhol made portraits of people using different colors that are not normal for the hair, skin, clothes, accessories and other objects. Many of his works hang in art museums. I chose my colors because spring is my favorite season and the blue and green of the shirt and the background always remind me of it. I've always enjoyed making people look different with Photoshop, especially their skin, which is why I used a color that couldn't possibly be soeone's skin color. The bright pink color of the lips contrasts with the dark skin, hair, and eyes, which is why I decided to use it also, because I love contrasting colors.

The students in graphic arts class are currently learning about Pop Art, specifically the work of Pittsburgh native Andy Warhol. The students trace a portrait of a celebrity and scan into Photoshop. The portrait is then enhanced through the program to create an image which is stylzed in the manner of Warhol's Pop Portraits. Examples of student work soon to be posted. PW.
